Oceans are a five piece shoegaze band from Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. With inspiration from ambient, new wave and 90’s Dream Pop, the heart of Oceans’ sound is a dedication to experimentation and timbre . Across Oceans’ breakthrough EP’s Come So Far, their collaborative effort with UK’s self-titled EP Wilt and debut LP “Dreamers in Dark Cities” they’ve landed support from Spotify’s Just Chill and Night Shift editorial playlists, features from Beat Magazine, Backseat Mafia and Trouble Juice, and played international shows at the New Colossus Showcase in New York City in early 2024 alongside tours of Australia & New Zealand in 2023.

Oceans return with a new brand of sonic experimentation in their new 10 track Sophomore LP set for release in September 2024. Recorded and produced with legendary Australian producer Lindsay Gravina (Rowland S. Howard, Magic Dirt), the LP draws on the vibrancy of 90s Dream Pop and electronic drum machines to explore a more uptempo and colourful approach to shoegaze. The album features heavy songwriting contributions from both leading songwriters, Thomas and Mayzie Lee as the band further broadens their sonic horizons.

Oceans are Thomas Lee (guitar, vocals), Mayzie Lee (vocals), Sam Black (rhythm guitar), David Escott (bass), and Michael Fox (drums).

Press Highlights

Oceans embeds their track with the band’s signature shoegaze-y charm, unravelling around a slowburning backbeat as illuminative layers of guitar and synth tangle against the soft vocals shared between Thomas and Mayzie Lee.

Trouble Juice

”The core, the songwriting, and the execution of the song all exhibit a strong sense of nostalgia and idealism, and Oceans' trademark indie nineties attributes are once more audible. All of these elements combine to create something endearing and expertly built.”

Destroy // Exist

Oceans immerses you in a captivating storytelling with his unique fusion of shoegaze and dreamy electronic soundscapes, providing an escape to a lush, cinematic world.”

Beat

The lush double vocals, the divine melodic lines, the anthemic build-up filled with opulent white noise, and last but not least the super cool video contating footage from Sofia Coppola’s “The Virgin Suicides” are just some of this audiovisual treasure’s virtues.

Last Day Deaf

”Enjoying this washy goodness - wavy but keeps a pace. A really lovable track”

Steph Hughes - Triple J

“Together the chords, keys, rhythms, vocals and ethereal vibes rise high up from the sullen earth toward staggering stratospheres of wistful, positive and amorous exaltations.”
